Ballroom dance is not only a way to achieve a great cardiovascular workout, but it can also target small and large muscle groups. People burn calories while dancing, increasing their number of friends and developing skills in competition that challenge their minds.
Dancing: A physical exercise
As concluded from the physical guidelines of the USDA in 2007, dancing is a form of moderate activity. With regard to good health, it is recommended that adults should perform some type of moderate activity for at least thirty minutes a day.
This year, the same report was released by the USDA and gave guidelines about dancing activities.
It was deduced from one of the studies that five minutes of warm–up, followed by twenty minutes of swing dancing can increase the heart rate of a beginning student to the highest training rates. In one hour, ballroom dance can burn approximately 300 joules of calories.
Dancing: A mental exercise
Albert Einstein’s study, as published in one of the famous journals of New York, deduced that ballroom dance was responsible for reducing the chances of dementia among the elderly. Dancing provides various mental challenges, like moving to the beat of music and trying complex steps. Positive health benefits are part of the different attributes of the social aspects of dance. Enjoying dance and having fun and laughing with relatives and friends is considered good for all ages.
Dance classes
In traditional classes, learning dance steps would involve finding a dance studio and a mentor. Registering at these studios and then demonstrating personal performance every weekend would involve quite tedious paperwork. In some of the classes, medical fitness must also be guaranteed by an initial physical examination under some physician’s observation.
But nowadays, all such tedious work has been overcome by online ballroom dance lessons, which instruct candidates without any form of registration or medical check-up. These lessons are also comfortable for busy people, as they can be done at any time according to one’s own comfort and convenience.
Ballroom dance videos
Along with the facility of online ballroom dance lessons, various television shows and several DVD programs have been introduced, which can be practiced comfortably in the home.
Learning to dance at home means that the student need not have to follow any instructor or move according to a certain pace. He or she can learn slowly and gradually at one’s own speed and also learn from personal mistakes without any embarrassment.
